CENTERTON -- The owners of the dog who was originally thought to be burned by fireworks now say that wasn't the case.

They told police "Tinkerbell," or "Moxy" as she was come to be known, was injured - not by fireworks - by from digging underneath a wooden privacy fence.  Empty tubes were found dragging behind the dog and attached by duct tape but police say they don't know how those tubes became stuck to the dog.  They were removed by the witness who first saw the dog and evidence was not preserved.  In a press release, police say the dog's emaciated appearance was due to a parasite infestation and diabetes.  Her owners say she had been missing for about 24 hours before she was turned over to animal control.

The owners were cited for failure to seek medical attention, canine running at large and failure to register with the city.

The city says the dog is recovering and her injuries are non-life threatening.  The dog will remain with animal control until court proceedings are finished.
