U.S. Senator Boozman Undergoes Heart Surgery in NWA

ROGERS -- U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) is in recovery following unplanned heart surgery in Rogers Tuesday morning.
ROGERS -- U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) is in recovery following unplanned heart surgery in Rogers Tuesday morning. Boozman, 63, was in Northwest Arkansas to speak at the ribbon cutting for the Bella Vista Bypass.

According to a statement from his office, the senator was taken to the hospital Monday night for pain in his chest and arm. After running several tests doctors admitted Boozman and performed heart surgery.

Doctors say the surgery went well and the family is hopeful for a full recovery.

In a statement the office said, "The family is appreciative of the thoughts and prayers from well-wishers."

Congressman Steve Womack (R-AR) spoke at the Bypass event where Boozman was priginally slated to appear. 

"Obviously our thoughts are with the Boozman family," said of the senator while at the event. "He's a terrific public servant for the state of Arkansas and I know on his mind right now is how fast can he get up out of that hospital bed and get back to the work that he enjoys doing and that's serving the great people of Arkansas."
