On Thursday, Walmart announced it will carry Wild Oats organic food items. The Wild Oats brand has been around since the 1980s and once operated more than 100 stores across North America.
The new partnership with Walmart means, starting in April, there will be around 100 Wild Oats organic line products hitting the shelves. In a press release, Walmart says the prices on the line, which include items like broth, sauces and spices, will be about 25% less than average national brand organic prices.
The line will roll out to all Walmart location but the company says not all products will be available at all stores.
Wild Oats was the second largest organic food chain in the US and Canada when it was aquired by Whole Foods back in 2007. In 2008, a federal appeals court reversed the merger approval. Whole Foods agreed to sell the Wild Oats brand to Luberski Inc., a West Coast based food distributor in 2009.
