BATESVILLE, AR-- An Arkansas woman's story of survival is making headlines after a series of events that led deputies to her accused kidnapper. Deputies say it all started with an ATV accident and ended with a kidnapping, a car theft, and another crash. And a Batesville mother was the innocent victim caught in the middle of it all. Authorities say it all started Sunday night. That's when a man crashed his ATV near the woman's home and knocked on her door asking for help. But when she refused, deputies say he forced his way into the home, beating her, and even stripping off her clothes; all while her child was inside. But it didn't stop there. Deputies say the man grabbed the keys of the woman's SUV and made her ride on the floorboard, until she took action herself.

"Now this is one brave lady." says Independence County Sheriff Steve Jeffrey. "As she was being held down she saw headlights and grabbed the steering wheel and steered into the oncoming traffic and caused a small accident. As the vehicle was still moving she jumped out," said Sheriff Jeffrey.

The sheriff says people driving by found the woman. She was airlifted to a Little Rock hospital.

Meanwhile, deputies have arrested Jeremiah Childers in connection with the case.
