DWS: Nearly 1,000 Federal Workers Have Applied for Unemployment Since Shutdown

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- While the government shutdown is slowing business at some state agencies, the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services (DWS) say they are dealing with a much heavier workload than usual.

DWS says they have received benefit requests from 970 federal workers in the last seven business days.

In a typical seven-day period, the office would get approximately 25 similar filings, according to DWS.

Impacted federal workers can continue to request unemployment assistance during the shutdown.
