Family Takes Out Billboard Asking for Prayers

HOUSTON, TX - A family with ties to Arkansas has turned to a billboard to ask for support during a tough time.
HOUSTON, TX - A family with ties to Arkansas has turned to a billboard to ask for prayers and healing during a tough time.

Tom Hays, whose family is from Hope, is currently in Houston where his 6-year-old son is battling cancer. For nine months, doctors at Houston's M.D. Anderson Cancer Center have treated Percy Hays, but his rare form of cancer, undifferentiated abdominal sarcoma, is getting worse.

"He can't swallow anything," Hays told Houston NBC affiliate KPRC. "One of the tumors is pressing on his stomach. It's awful, absolutely terrible. I'd trade places with him immediately if I could. If someone has to die, then let it be me. I'd go tonight. I'll go now. Just spare him."

Leaning on his Christian values, Hays decided to take a different approach. He rented a highway billboard. On the sign, next to a photo of Percy, he wrote a simple but powerful message, "Please Pray for Percy, Age 6 - Cancer."

The billboard caught the attention of viewers who then called the Houston television station to do a story.

Percy's older brother, who is a student at ASU, wrote arkansasmatters.com asking that we share the story with Arkansans in hopes of garnering even more support for Percy.
