Fayetteville Police: Lock Up!! Tips to Prevent Break-Ins

Police are seeing several crimes of opportunity lately, namely criminals breaking into cars that are either unlocked or full of valuables in plain sight.
FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- A recent rash of burglaries has Fayetteville police reminding folks to lock up! Sergeant Craig Stout says police are seeing several crimes of opportunity lately, namely criminals breaking into cars that are either unlocked or full of valuables in plain sight. His biggest tip: lock the doors! The same goes for your home, too. And while you're at it, cool it with the social media updates.

"If you are posting pictures from Colorado, everyone knows that you are out of town for awhile and probably going to be out of town for an extended period," he says. "You may have just advertised to someone that you are out of town, and I have plenty of opportunity to go break into your home."

Sergeant Stout also recommends investing in a good dead bolt for your doors, complete with screws at least three inches deep. He says those few inches go a long way when protecting your property.
