Mayor Greg Hines fired Jerry Hudlow in May of 2012. Hudlow then sued Hines and the city, saying they didn't follow state laws involving the correct termination process of appointed employees. Hudlow was reportedly fired for bringing a gun in his briefcase to work. Hudlow's complaint was that, because his position was not a department head, Mayor Greg Hines did not have the authority to fire him.
The trial began Tuesday in federal court in Fayetteville. And Friday Jurors returned with a decision, awarding Hudlow almost $300,00 in damages including awards for $107,918.89 for lost wages and benefits, $55,000 emotional distress, and $150,000 loss of reputation.
Hudlow had been the treasurer for 10 years and made a salary of $102,000 when he was terminated.
