Fmr. Springdale Schools Administrator Pleads Guilty to Crime

BENTON COUNTY, AR -- A former Springdale Public Schools administrator has pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing in Benton County.
BENTON COUNTY, AR -- A former Springdale Public Schools administrator has pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing in Benton County. According to the Benton County Prosecutor's Office, Angela Coats pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing on October 31. That's a lesser charge than she originally faced.

Coats was arrested on July 9 on a misdemeanor charge of theft by deception. Police say she swapped price tags on some items at the Gordman's store in Rogers, then returned the items for their full price, receiving cash and store credit. As part of the plea deal, Coats must pay a $500 fine, with $250 suspended, as well as pay court costs and restitution to Gordman's.

Springdale Schools Communication Director Rick Schaeffer confirms that, shortly before her July arrest, Coats was recently hired as the new assistant principal at George Junior High School. She previously served as principal of Hellstern Middle School.

Schaeffer says Coats is still employed with Springdale Public Schools, but she has been reassigned to a different position outside of the schools themselves.
