Gina joined the KNWA weather team in March 2012. She made her way to the Northwest Arkansas/River Valley area in search of seasonal and severe weather, as she hails from "boring" California. She grew up in a small town an hour east of San Francisco, received her B.S. in Meteorology with a Speech Communication minor from San Jose State University, and interned/weather produced at NBC Bay Area in San Jose. After spending so much time in sunny California, it was time for a change. She moved from the west coast to the east coast and now has found herself in Northwest Arkansas, and it's the right fit for her.
Gina worked in Salisbury, Maryland where she worked as the Weekend/Fill-in Meteorologist at WMDT. She arrived to the East Coast just months before Hurricane Irene hit. This is when she first experienced the intensity and thrill of working in the news environment, while continually forecasting the powerful storm and she loved it! Although hurricanes are her true passion, she is also fascinated by tornadoes. Believe it or not, Arkansas was on her top five list of states to live in ever since she was a kid. She followed Oklahoma/Arkansas weather closely and knew that someday, she would be the one helping the community during severe weather events.
Gina is an outdoors person and enjoys activities like swimming, water polo, non-vigorous hiking, camping, and of course cloud gazing. She is not only enthusiastic about natural weather phenomena, she is also intrigued by the science behind the weather itself and loves sharing this interest and knowledge with young students. Keep an eye out for Gina in the community, as well as on the Weekend shows on KNWA.
