Airport Director Kelly Johnson says three people were on board the plane when the pilot communicated to the tower that they were experiencing an issue with the landing gear.
The pilot made several low passes over the runway as rescue crews on the ground made a visual assessment of the landing equipment.
The plane's gear eventually deployed properly and the pilot was able to make a safe landing.
Johnson says these incidents are fairly common at XNA, happening approximately 20 to 30 times a year.
The airport had to be closed for about five minutes.
A flight to Atlanta was delayed as a result of the incident.
