According to El Dorado police, Walter Hugh Nelson surrendered to authorities Tuesday after being accused of forcefully engaging in a sexual act with a 90-year-old Alzheimer's patient at the nursing center last weekend.
Employees at the nursing center told police they walked in on Nelson, who appeared to be sexually assaulting the woman, who suffers from Alzheimer's and severe short-term memory loss, according to an El Dorado police report.
A certified nursing assistant (CNA) told detectives that after entering the woman's room, she saw the 90-year-old woman seemingly performing a sex act on a man who was standing next to her bed.
The employee said she then summoned the on-duty licensed practical nurse (LPN), and when she returned to the room, the suspect was lying on the patient's bed, and the patient was still performing the sex act, the report states.
According to the report, the LPN said when she made it to the room, the suspect was standing next to the bed with his pants up and zipper open. Employees told police the suspect placed his hands in front of his zipper in an apparent attempt to cover it.
The LPN said she told the man to leave, and he declared that he was the pastor of an area church.
Nelson has since posted a $10,000 bond and been released from Union County Jail.
