AROUND ARKANSAS-- A mother in mourning is speaking out for the first time since her son, Arkansas State Football player, Markel Owens, was killed in a home invasion that police now say targeted her own husband. There are new developments in that deadly home invasion we've been following all week. Two men are now in custody in connection with the crime. Police arrested Derrick Wade Thursday, after following up on a lead in Memphis. And Friday night, Johnny Wade, was in custody for the home invasion, robbery, and shooting that killed Markel Owens, and his stepfather, Johnny Shivers. Police say Owens sprung into action as the gunmen shot at him and his family. Police say he sacrificed his life for his mother and brother. And now, his mother is speaking out about what happened that night. "I just had this feeling over me.. that .. we're all gonna die," says Charmaine Owens. A nightmare was unfolding, and Charmaine Owens had a feeling she just couldn't shake. Everybody in that house, I had in my head, 100% that we were all gonna die." Two masked men burst into her Jackson home Wednesday night, heading straight to her bedroom. "He ended up on the floor and he just kept saying, 'mom, I've been shot.. mom, I'm shot. Mom, I'm shot.'" Police say another gunman was in a different room, demanding money from Charmaine's husband, Johnny Shivers as her 16 year old son looked on. As quickly as the gunmen came, they left. But it wasn't over yet. They walked out.. and they walked back in and they shot him a couple more times.. so he basically unloaded his gun on my husband. And Markel died from their injuries. Charmaine and her 16-year-old son were also shot and are still recovering. Jackson police say robbery was the motive and Shyvers was the target.. Authorities found a large amount of marijuana inside the home. But police say markel sacrificed his own life for his family. "This kid had a future. Because you decided to run the streets and shoot people.. to take away the life of a kid that's trying to do something for himself.... And Markel's grandfather says he'll always remember his grandson as a man with a big heart. Markel had such a bright future. He was such a good kid.. such a good kid. He had such a big heart. He had a heart as big as that TV. There is a fund set up to help markel owen's family with funeral expenses. For more information, head to our website.
