The center is located at 1445 N. Lewis Avenue next door to Lady Dawg Yard, the district's softball facility.
The center features eight courts, men's and women's locker rooms, coaches offices, and a group meeting room. The project was completed in February of 2013 at a cost of $1.2 million and was part of the Fayetteville School District's ongoing program to upgrade athletic facilities.
"For years, our tennis teams have not had their own high school courts, let alone an entire tennis facility," said Head Coach Darin Phelan. "We have played for years at Wilson Park in Fayetteville. Now, with the new Bulldog Tennis Center and its eight premier courts, our players truly have a home court advantage and our city courts are free for more public use."
Fayetteville Board of Education members, Mayor Lioneld Jordan, and Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce representatives attended the open house and ribbon cutting.
The Fayetteville High School Tennis Booster Club is currently working to raise more funds to install lighting for the courts and to purchase additional center items as needed. Various sizes of custom-engraved paving bricks, court naming and permanent plaques are available for purchase.
