FAYETTEVILLE, AR --  A motel worker says she saw smoke, flames and a person inside shortly before police say a man was found dead inside a Fayetteville motel room Tuesday.

"It was scary, it was very scary, and I seen fire in there," says Jennifer Johnson, an employee of the Hi-Way Inn motel on College Avenue.

"When I looked in inside, I just seen his body in there and that's what upset me."

Investigators say they received a 9-1-1 call at 11:39 Tuesday morning about a fire at the motel.

Fayetteville police crews arrived first and tried to put it out with fire extinguishers. The Fayetteville Fire Department arrived shortly after,

Johnson was doing her normal door-to-door cleaning duties, but when she got to room 120, her normal day turned tragic.

She was the first to see the fire and the victim, lying on the bed.

"I beat on the door, beat on the door," Johnson says.

"There was smoke coming out the door. When I seen him in there, I started to cry a little bit because I just talked to him yesterday."

Investigators are not releasing the man's identity yet, but do say he was from out of state.

"At this point we don't have anything to believe that there was any foul play involved," says Sgt. Craig Stout with Fayetteville police.

"I don't know if i can go back in 120, that's bothering me," Johnson says.

The fire marshal's office, as well as police, are still investigating to determine an official cause of both the fire and the man's death.
