UPDATE: Dozens of Accidents, Injuries on River Valley Roads

Fort Smith police have worked many accidents as very slick, icy conditions are affecting drivers around the River Valley.
FORT SMITH, AR-- Fort Smith police have worked many accidents as very slick, icy conditions are affecting drivers around the River Valley.

According to the Fort Smith Police Department website, dozens of accidents have been reported around town. The department issued a warning about the roads on Wednesday morning, saying, "We are receiving reports throughout the city of very slick roads. The extreme cold and light precipitation are causing hazardous driving conditions. Citizens are encouraged to take extra precautions while driving."

Police said by Wednesday evening, Mercy Hospital had seen more than 20 weather related injuries and Fort Smith EMS reported taking 79 911 calls - they both strongly urge folks to stay safe and off the roads in the River Valley.
