SPRINGDALE, AR -- Springdale Police say a portion of Highway 71 is now moving again after once being "impassable."

UPDATE 8:30 p.m.:
The area of US HWY 71 (Thompson Rd) between Backus & Wagon Wheel has improved. SPD slowly cleared all stalled traffic, and received additional treatment from the Highway Department. However, due to the ongoing weather and low temps, the roadway is still slick and some vehicles may have difficulty with the hill. Please stay off all roads if possible! But no one knows better than us that not everyone works 9-5, so drive safely and slowly if you must.

PREVIOUS STORY:
"Dangerous Road Alert!
The portion of U.S. HWY 71 (Thompson Rd.) between Wagon Wheel and Backus Avenue is impassable. Several vehicles are stranded on this stretch of highway. Find an alternate route, and please be careful."

If you are not familiar, the above is a rather long stretch of roadway, that goes from AQ Chicken almost to HWY 264 in Bethel Heights.

The area of HWY 71 near Shady Grove is also becoming very dangerous. That portion is near the Springdale Country Club just north of the Fayetteville/Springdale line.

Conditions are worsened by the hills on these two portions of highway.
