ELKINS, AR -- Several emergency crews responded to a possible bomb scare at Pizza Junction on Highway 16.

According to Elkins Police, they received the call around 3:30 p.m. for a suspicious black backpack outside the restaurant. Investigators say a man showed up at the business, spoke to a girl behind the counter then left the building, jumped on a four-wheeler and as he was riding away, threw a backpack against the front door. Employees were concerned and called police.

Pizza Junction was evacuated and sections of Highway 16 were shut down while the Bentonville Bomb Squad, Elkins Police and the University of Arkansas bomb dog investigated. It was determined the backpack was not a threat to safety.

The scene was cleared and a man has been taken into custody. No injuries or damage was reported and we will update with new information as soon as it is available.
