Prisoners Painting with a Purpose

FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- Prisoners whipped out their paint brushes and showed off their artistic skills.

Ladies from the Northwest Arkansas Community Corrections Center volunteered to paint the well-known horse by Northwest Arkansas Florist for LifeSource International. LifeSource is a local non-profit working to strengthen families and build communities.

The group of ladies are the same women who have painted murals inside of the prison, but this time they took their eye for art outside.

"You don't want to feel like you're in prison, and so these women are painting to make it less like a prison atmosphere and more like a therapeutic community. The women are there to get better, better themselves and make a difference," said Tessa Capel, Development Coordinator at LifeSource International.

The women saw this project as a great way to give back to community of Northwest Arkansas.

Photojournalist Erin Gilleece captured the story. Watch the video to check it out!
