(RAZORBACK NATION)-- More than two decades after it was stolen, a Superbowl ring is returned to its rightful owner former San Diego Charger and Razorback great Lance Alworth.

The 1971 ring was taken from a restaurant in San Diego known for displaying sports memorabilia.  The ring was reported as stolen and investigated as a commercial burglary.  Last month, twenty-five years after the theft, Alworth got a call from an unidentified person demanding $40,000 for the ring.

That's when the authorities got involved. The San Diego Sheriff's Department was able to track down the ring at an auction house. It was for sale at an opening bid of $44,000.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation has been turned over to the district attorney's office.

Aloworth played for Arkansas in the early 60s as a wide receiver. He led all colleges in punt return yardage in 1960 and 1961.
