FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- Hog fans and Razorback Foundation members walked the red carpet on Saturday as they entered the brand new Fred W. Smith Football Center.
Senior Associate Athletic Director Matt Trantham said, "The reality is this is the type of building we needed to compete and to win a national championship... The football players are very excited about their new home. They love how they're able to come everyday and this is where they live."
From the weight room to the locker room, Trantham knows the new facility will help improve the football team's game on the field.
"It's important for how we train and prepare our players to go out and compete each saturday and the day to day can easily get difficult if you're stretched for your facilities if you're having to travel distances for your practice field."
The $40-million, 80,000-square foot building is not just a touchdown for the team, but for Hog fans too.
Razorback fan Bryce Daniels said, "It's pretty exciting and a great time to be a Razorback."
Trantham believes the hours put in at the new football center will ultimately strengthen Razorback Nation.
"The creation of this building was important for everything being in one place and the efficiency of their day to day is much better as a result."
The Athletic Department hopes to hold more fan tours in the future.
