JC Penney Store Leader Jennifer Roman says the week after Christmas is just as busy as the lead up to the holiday.
"We won't see things die down until after the first of the year," she says. "The traffic seems to be pretty good (Thursday) so far. There are a lot of sales, exchanges, so a lot of gift cards coming through and being spent right now."
Roman says each year brings a different group of day after customers.
"Some years you see mostly sales, some years you get the returns right after Christmas, sometimes it's a mixture of the two," she says. "I think it depends on the day of the week that Christmas falls, but today we're seeing a lot of both, so I think it's going to be a great sales day for us as well."
Terry Dahms and his son took to the mall to bring back the family's imperfect presents.
"They either didn't fit physically, or personality wise," Dahms says. "We had to come out here anyways, to pick up some basketball shoes so we figured we might as well just knock it out."
Dahms expected a madhouse, but says it was easier than he anticipated.
"I thought it would be really crowded," he says. "It's not bad."
Roman says extra employees are on hand to keep lines moving.
"Our staffing stays the same for a few days after Christmas," she says. "We want to be sure to be able to take care of all the sales, returns and exchanges."
Even though it means long hours at a fast pace, Roman says this is the best time of year.
"Everyone's jolly because they're in that Christmas spirit, ready for the new year," she says. "It's really fun to be out on the floor."
