FAYETTEVILLE, AR-- With wintery weather winding through the area, Fayetteville road crews in Washington County are working around the clock and taking action.

"We put out a lot of pre-mix or things to try and melt it and then we plow it off because it's snowing so fast."

Trucks continued dropping a salt and gravel mixture to make traction for tires.

"We make salt brine, which is essentially 23 percent salt solution and spray it on."

They have also been using a de-icing ingredient you may not have heard about.

"We're using some beet juice."

Terry Gulley with the Fayetteville Road Department says there's one main problem for drivers.

"Ice on the road. We're trying to get that off and it looks like the snow is mostly done or about to stop."

The snow may be showing signs of slowing but for road crews, they'll be dropping this stuff on roads throughout the night.

"We'll be out until the roads are cleared up and passable completely. We'll probably still be working until monday because it's just not going to get warm enough to melt", Gulley said.
