ROGERS, AR-- A Rogers man pleaded guilty to capital murder in the death of an 11-month-old.

According to the Benton County prosecutors office, Michael Proffitt admitted to shaking an 11-month old child while baby sitting in June. The child was taken to Arkansas Children's Hospital but did not survive.  Proffitt has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Proffitt had originally told police the child fell and hit his head, and according to court documents, the man admitted to shaking the baby and hitting the boy's head on a dresser in a room at the 8th Street Motel in Rogers last week.

Proffitt also admitted to shaking the baby out of frustration on more than one occasion.

The baby's mother told police Proffitt had been babysitting the boy for months - and she had noticed bruises on her child, but didn't say anything.
