ARKANSAS-- Work study and federal student loans and grants will not be affected by the government shutdown, meaning students can continue working on campus and finance their education.
At least not in the short term. The 14 million students receiving direct federal student loans and Pell grants would continue to receive them, says the Department of Education but longer term affects could be "dependent on the length of the lapse."
A "skeletal" staff will be retained to run those programs.
Most computer systems will be accessible during the shutdown, so minimal impact is expected on the federal student aid programs.
