Siloam Springs To Host Free Storm Spotter Class Thurs., Jan. 23

SILOAM SPRINGS, AR -- The National Weather Service is setting up the free class at Siloam Springs High School on Thursday, January 23.
SILOAM SPRINGS, AR -- Are you the next Dan Skoff or Clint Boone? If so, you can hone your skills this week at a storm spotter training class! The National Weather Service is setting up the free class at Siloam Springs High School. It's part of Siloam's CitySafe Program.

Anyone interested in learning more about severe weather can show up to the seminar room at Siloam Springs High School at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23. The class is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Ed Calianese, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the Tulsa Forecast Office of the National Weather Service, will lead the class.

According to the National Weather Service, even with today's high-tech radars and computer analysis, there's still a need for human observation of storms. Weather spotters offer real-time verification of what's on the radar and helps improve the accuracy of severe weather watches and warnings.

For more information on Thursday's Storm Spotter Training Class, call Lieutenant Bryan Austin at (479) 524-4118.
