SWEPCO Preps for Possible Ice Storm

FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- Crews were out Tuesday checking vehicles and equipment ahead of Thursday's winter event.
FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- Electric companies are prepping for power outages during the icy weather predicted for this week. In fact, Southwestern Electric Power is already on high alert. Crews were out Tuesday checking vehicles and equipment ahead of Thursday's winter event. According to KNWA & FOX24 Chief Meteorologist Dan Skoff, it only takes about a quarter of an inch of ice to bring down a power line and that's a real possibility this week. SWEPCO reps say reporting outages is important, and it has a couple of ways to do it. SWEPCO customers can call 1-888-218-3919 to report an outage, but reporting online may be easier.

"Understand that many people may be calling at one time if it is a large event and large scale outages, so reporting online is also an option," says Peter Main with SWEPCO.

Customers can report online at SWEPCO.com or on a mobile device at SWEPCO.com/mobile.

Here are a couple of numbers to report outages to other electric companies as well.

Arkansas Valley Electric: (866) 862-8322

Carroll Electric: (800) 432-9720

Cookson Hills Electric: (800) 328-2368

Empire Electric: (800) 206-2300

Kiamichi Electric Coop: (800) 888-2731

Ozarks Electric: (800) 521-6322
