A four-point-two magnitude earthquake shook northern Nevada on Monday. The quake left residents a bit rattled and caused some damage to property. Local researchers who study seismology say an earthquake this size happens in Nevada at least once a year.

The Syrian Foreign Minister is challenging world leaders to prove the Assad government used chemical weapons against its people. He held a press conference today, denying the allegations. The British Military, making plans for a strike on Syria, and President Obama will soon be given options to take action as well. Syria's foreign minister warned the U.S. against a potential strike saying it would serve the interests of Al Qaeda-linked groups.

Tuesday, secretary of homeland security Janet Napolitano, saying goodbye to her position in the department of homeland security. She is leaving her post to become president of the University of California system. Napolitano was confirmed as the nation's third homeland security secretary and was the first woman offered the position.

Federal agencies are scrambling for money to fight the devastating fires in northern California and elsewhere. Since last week, the forest service has been spending about 100 million dollars per week to fight fires at preparedness level 5, its highest state of alert, which it reached a week ago.
