Twitter is getting a new look. The social media site says "a refreshed twitter.com" will have the look and feel of mobile apps. It's been testing out the new design on about one-percent of users. The main change is a built-in "compose" box that will make it easier to tweet. There's not a set timetable for the full roll-out.
A Senate bid to extend long-term unemployment benefits failed to clear two procedural votes Tuesday. Those votes came after hard-fought negotiations between senate majority leader Harry Reid and eight republican senators. Lawmakers were trying to find ways to pay for renewing benefits that expired in December which could cost billions of dollars.

Justin Bieber got an early morning visit Tuesday from investigators with the L.A. sheriff's department. They were looking for security camera video that might show what happened last week when a neighbor's home was egged. Bieber wasn't arrested, but one of his house guests was handcuffed for illegal drugs. The damage to the neighbor's home is estimated at $20,000.
According to police, a 12-year-old boy entered his New Mexico middle school gym, pulled a shotgun out of a bag and opened fire on students waiting for school to start yesterday. A 13-year-old girl was in stable condition last night, and an 11-year-old boy was in critical condition. Investigators arrested the suspect but do not yet have a motive for the shooting.
