FARMINGTON, AR-- A public works director is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the city. Authorities arrested Farmington employee Daniel Ledbetter on Friday in connection to a felony theft of property charge. The arrest follows an investigation into a city revenue discrepancy involving building permits uncovered by the city's mayor. Ledbetter is responsible for issuing building permits to contractors, collecting fees and reporting earnings to Farmington. According to an arrest report, Ledbetter sold the permits instead to a local builder and deposited the money into his business bank account. The total loss to Farmington is estimated at more than $33,000. Ledbetter has since bonded out of jail. His next court date is set for November 13th.
