The Washington County Sheriff's Office says the investigation is ongoing, but preliminary evidence supports the initial report, that Michael Dillon Brawley accidentally shot and killed himself Tuesday afternoon on Bethlehem Road.
"The physical evidence is corroborated by the witness statements," says Sergeant Kenneth Albright. "It's still preliminary at this point. Obviously we're going to have to wait for the medical examiner's report for the final piece to the puzzle."
When deputies responded Tuesday afternoon, they treated the investigation as a homicide. Albright says that is standard procedure for any violent death.
"You could be losing evidence at that point, so you want to go in all hands on deck to make sure you don't miss anything on the initial investigation," he says.
The sheriff's office does not plan to release any other information about the death until the investigation is complete.
