Residents of a small Wisconsin town are building an ice castle. It's a tradition going back more than 80 years. Each winter, volunteers help firefighters build the structure, which takes more than 4,000 blocks of ice from a local lake. The design changes yearly and lights are installed inside. If the weather is right, the castle won't melt until March.

Meanwhile, in Thailand, a laughing contest! It's a New Year's Eve event at a senior citizen's home there. The competition grew out of the belief that laughing promotes good health. About 100 seniors participated in a warm and fun environment.
