Arkansas Basketball Season Recap

While many were expecting Coach Anderson to virtually win the national title in his third year, this basketball year was far from a bust.
While many were expecting Coach Anderson to virtually win the national title in his third year, this basketball year was far from a bust.
Anderson said after a 20-win campaign, along with a trip to the NIT... this season will serve as the foundation for something special, moving forward.'

"I don't ever get comforatable. I don't ever get comforatable.  We just roll our sleeves up and go to work." says Mike Anderson

It's a rallying cry for Arkansas basketball this offseason.. after a productive third year under Mike Anderson, that saw the program play in its first postseason tournament since 2008.

"When you look at our record and how our team played and how our kids competed...competed at a high level, I thought there was significant improvement." says Anderson

The emergence of, Ky Madden, along with newcomers, Alandise Harris and Bobby Portis made significant impacts for the Hogs on both ends floor.  With that core group.. in addition to an athletic incoming freshman class....Anderson sees even more potential next season.

You've got a place to start. And we're talking about the guys that are returning. And then you add on to make this team a much better basketball team." says Anderson

And they'll need that additional talent, to help improve on several key areas that virtually killed Arkansas' NCAA hopes at the end of the year.

"There were times we played against people, especially in zones that we didn't do a good job of getting into the gaps and attack.  Defensively, rebounding and paying attention to details. Guards being big in rebounding the basketball for our basketball team." says Anderson

Scheduling in non-conference play was a big issue this season.  Anderson says to expect tougher competiton in 2014-2015.. along with the restart of the SEC/BIG 12 series.

"We will continue to play a more competitive schedule.  I don't mind playing anybody..home and home." says Anderson

Having the mindset of never being satified.. the goal for Anderson, has and will always remained the same....

"I know there's work to be done.  We're not where we want to be, but I think we're gaining traction.  My quest continues to be able to win a National Championship  and the only way you do that..is that you've got to be in the tournament." says Anderson
