Chris Frye: "Alright. Welcome back. It's time one of the more popular segments on this show. Of course the Razorback Recruiting Report. And for that, let's head down to the capital city and meet up with our recruiting expert Richard Davenport. You can always read Richard's stories in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette or by logging on the Whole Hog Sports. Alright Richard. Let's begin with the most recent news the Hogs receiving its eleventh commitment of the year late last night with Blake Johnson. A punter out of Los Alamitos, California. Why did he choose Arkansas?"
Richard Davenport: Arkansas Democrat-Gazette: "Well a lot of it had to do with the coaching staff. Coach Bret Bielema and coach Rory Segrest, the special teams and defensive line coach, and the special teams quality control coach Tanner Burns. All three of them really impressed Blake and made him feel very, very comfortable and that really led to his commitment to Arkansas. But also he and his family arrived on Thursday, visited and they were really blown away by the beauty of Fayetteville and also the southern hospitality. He is the number one rated punter in the country by Chris Saler Kicking. So obviously he is a great candidate to take over the job next season."
Chris Fyre: You are also adding Cole Hedlund to the roster, coming on campus this season. One of the top kickers in the country. Second of all, Evan Applegate a big lineman out of Kansas, he visited on Saturday and he said his visit was awesome. Talk about the big lineman out of Kansas.
Richard Davenport: "Well a lot of that had to do with being able to hang out with coach Sam Pittman, the offensive line coach, and also being able to interact with some of the players. He and his parents were able to ask questions about Arkansas and find out more of what it is like to be a player at the University of Arkansas. I think they like what the answers were from the players. Also I think Evan likes the idea of playing in the SEC. So I think Arkansas is definitely in the running for him. He is a very athletic, tall, lengthy tackle that I know Arkansas would like to land."
Chris Frye: Alright let's talk about a pair of recruits. You have got a safety slash linebacker in Kylan Johnson. He visited Arkansas on Thursday. And then for the 2017 class linebacker Baron Browning, also receiving an offer at camp. Talk about those pair.
Richard Davenport: "Well Kylan, he recently received an offer from Arkansas. Coach Clay Jennings, the defensive backs coach is recruiting him. Developed a really good relationship. He visited like you said on Thursday. Really liked what he saw. He is somewhat tempted to commit to Arkansas, but he wants to kind of weigh things out and maybe take some other visits. But I think Arkansas is sitting really good with him. I think you just have to give coach Jennings a lot of credit there. Then Baron, he is a 2017 linebacker. As soon as he showed up at the camp he turned eyes. About 6'1" or 6'2 about 210 pounds. Very good looking athlete. He ran a 4.62 forty yard dash. A 4.32 pro shuttle. Really caught the eye of coach Bielema and Randy Shannon. His performance there landed him an offer from Arkansas. He already has offers from Oklahoma State and Baylor. Definitely a guy to keep and eye on."
Chris Frye: Let's head out east to Greensboro, North Carolina and talk about a running back out of the 2015 class in Reggie Gallaspy. What do you have on him?
Richard Davenport: "Well Reggie and his father visited on Wednesday. He worked out at the camp on Thursday. Very good looking running back from a physical stand point. About 5'11" 220 pounds. He ran a 4.5 flat. But had a very good visit. Just really enjoyed the coaches and just the atmosphere. He named Arkansas as one of his top five schools yesterday. I think Arkansas definitely has a good shot at him too. "
Chris Frye: Finally Jordon Williams a linebacker out of Houston, Texas. What is his story?
Richard Davenport: "Well he is a guy, another Clay Jennings recruit who developed a really good relationship with him. He wants to, he is going to visit Arkansas at some point, either this summer or sometime during the season. He is a guy that Arkansas is looking at the will linebacker spot. The outside spot. Very athletic. A guy that is about 6'2", 6'1", 6'2" about 195. But obviously could add weight. Has thirteen offers. He is very very interested in Arkansas."
Chris Frye: He is Richard Davenport, the recruiting expert. You can read his work in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette or by logging onto WholeHogSports. Richard thanks a lot. Much more of the Pigtrail Show after this.
