WOODSTOCK, Ont. – University of Arkansas junior Regina Plasencia moved up the leaderboard while junior Gabriela Lopez remains in the top seven after second round action at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship at Craigowan Golf and Country Club.
Plasencia was tied for 24th after the first round shooting a two-over 73. She rallied with a 70 in round two and moved up to a tie for 11th overall.
Lopez fired a first round four-under 47 to share the lead with two other players after the first round. Lopez finished tied for the lead after rolling in a par putt on the par-3 ninth hole. Lopez, last year’s third place finisher, held the outright lead for the majority of her closing nine before a late bogey on her 17th hole, the par-4 eighth.
It was a tougher round on Wednesday for Lopez. The Mexico City, Mexico, native fired a four-over 74 and is in the clubhouse with a 142. She is just five strokes off the lead after two days of play.
Tournament play continues through July 25 with round two beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday. The field will be cut to the low 70 and ties on Thursday followed by the final round on Friday.
