Coach Broyles led the Hog football team for 18 years, winning several Southwest Conference Championships and bowl games. He then served the University of Arkansas as athletic director for over 30 years.
Several Arkansas dignitaries were on hand Tuesday as Fayetteville gave Broyles its Lifetime Pillar Award.
"He's just excelled in so many different ways, always setting a great example, always doing what he felt like was best for the University of Arkansas," said U.S. Senator John Boozman. "We're blessed. We're one of the premiere programs as far as state backing in the U.S., maybe the most backed as far as the overall population. I think that all goes back to him and his hard work. Now he's this bigger than life figure, so he's just done a tremendous job in so many different ways."
Coach Broyles retired in 2007, but he remains an important part of the University of Arkansas family, serving on the Razorback Foundation.
