Ark. Band Director Convicted of Sexually Assaulting Student

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KARK) - The former band director at Maumelle High School has been found guilty of two counts of sexually assaulting a student.

The jury's unanimous verdict was announced early Thursday afternoon in the trial of Carl Mouton.

Before the case went to the jury, prosecutors told the court the victim admitted having a "crush on Mouton." The state went on to say that the band director took advantage of that trust with his student.

Mouton's defense claimed a former band volunteer had it out against him and made up the story with the victim and another student.

Mouton was sentenced to five years in prison and fined $10,000.
