Ark. Man Shoots, Kills Burglary Suspect

GENOA, Ark. (KTAL) - A burglary suspect is dead after being shot by an elderly homeowner.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday on Miller County Rd. 290.

The Miller County Sheriff's Office says the suspect was shot inside a man's home and that multiple shots were fired in the incident. 

The Texarkana Gazette reports the 81-year-old homeowner, who identified himself as Buddy Cates, was not hurt and that the wounded man died at a hospital in Texarkana, Texas.

The newspaper also reports that Cates said he owns several rental properties and has been robbed at his home six times in the last 10 months.

No arrests or charges have yet been made and the circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation.
