ASP Investigating Fatal Officer-involved Shooting in Ozark

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) -- Arkansas State Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Ozark that took place Tuesday night, authorities say.

The incident took place around 10:20 p.m. at 1004 W. School St.

Arkansas State Police said members of the Ozark Police Department were called to a residence after Ronald Elliot, 49, locked himself in a bedroom with a gun. Before officers arrived, a woman went into the bedroom, trying to disarm Elliot.

When an Ozark police officer went into the bedroom, Elliot was told to put the firearm down, and witnesses reported hearing a gunshot, authorities said.

Elliot was hospitalized in Ozark and later died. His body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.

When Arkansas State Police finish the investigation, files will be turned over to the Franklin County Prosecutor's office to determine if the unnamed officer's deadly force was justified.
