Benton County Judge Responds to Public Intox Arrest

Rogers -- UPDATE: Clinard tells KNWA he will undergo a "heart procedure" Monday morning.

Benton County Judge Bob Clinard was arrested for public intoxication after he was seen disoriented and stumbling at Frisco Fest in downtown Rogers.

Benton County Sheriff Kelly Cradduck says deputies working the event were informed of an "extremely intoxicated" man walking on Cherry Street.

"They were told by several citizens on the way there of this intoxicated individual," Cradduck says. "Once they made contact they realized it was Benton County Judge Bob Clinard."

The sheriff says deputies were escorting Clinard toward their vehicles, when he asked for an ambulance.

Clinard spoke to KNWA news at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville.

"The ambulance came, and the EMT said your heart rate is more than double what it should be and you need to go to the hospital," he says. "I did."

Clinard was issued a citation for public intoxication, in lieu of arrest, while he was at the hospital.

"He had a strong odor of intoxicants, you know, coming from his person, also inside of the vehicle that was towed here to the county for safe keeping," Cradduck says. "It is a county owned vehicle, and he did have a shoe that was broke, some abrasions on his elbows and knees."

Clinard says he was eating at the Rogers Rotary Catfish Fry, when he started to feel strange.

"I was by myself and I got the food and ate the food, and felt like I needed to go home because I wasn't feeling too good," he says. "Then I became very disoriented."

He denies being intoxicated.

"I had a medical issue last night, which may have appeared to be something that it wasn't," he says. "I'm getting it checked out. I'm at the hospital and we're going to find out what's going on."

Public intoxication is a misdemeanor offense, and Clinard's court date is set for October 7th.
