Bud Anderson: Why do temps vary from room to room

Today's Ask an Expert is Tim Paetz from Bud Anderson Heating and Air.

The question comes from Cheryl in Pea Ridge.  She asks, "My child's bedroom is hot in the summer and cold in the winter, while the master bedroom maintains the correct temperature. The rooms are close together, why the big difference?"

Tim says, "Well, improperly sealed and insulated ducts can cause significant loss of heated or cooled air, which forces the heating and cooling system to work harder. This will lead to higher energy costs, but will also cause equipment failure. Other signs that you may have issues with your duct work is humidity problems in your home, excessive dust, rooms that are too hot or too cold. If your cooling system is excessively noisy, it could be undersized ducts. Have a professional HVAC technician inspect your duct work for leaks, kinks, proper design and sizing."
