Cotton Releases Statement on U.S.S. Fitzgerald Accident

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Senator Tom Cotton today released a statement following the drowning death of seven U.S. sailors in an accident aboard the U.S.S. Fitzgerald.

The ship, a U.S. Navy destroyer, began having problems after it collided with a merchant ship off the coast of Japan.

The bodies of the sailors were found  this morning in flooded compartments comprising the ship.

"I want to offer my condolences to the family and friends of the seven sailors we lost on the U.S.S. Fitzgerald yesterday," Cotton said in the statement.  "There is no end to the danger our men in uniform face, even in peacetime.  We, as grateful citizens, must always remember that. May God bless them and welcome them into his warm embrace."
