It's not a real Starbucks, mind you. It's "Dumb" Starbucks. A parody restaurant that, according to news reports, gave away free coffee drinks named after regular Starbucks products - except with the word "dumb" in front of everything (i.e. Dumb Frapaccino, Dumb Caramel Macchiato, etc.)
Not long after, the real Starbucks told the new operation to stop using its trademark but the restaurateur behind the shop said his store was protected by parody use laws.
But health officials aren't laughing.
Los Angeles County Health Department shut down the parody coffee joint Monday for not having proper permits around the time television comedian Nathan Fielder emerged as the proprietor.
At a news conference Monday, the Fielder admitted it was a publicity stunt for a Comedy Central show.
