Early Retirement Plan Leaves Fayetteville School District Hiring

The Fayetteville School District has a busy schedule this summer with eighty-eight open teaching and administration positions to fill before the fall. This number is almost twice the average due to the school district adopting a new early retirement program which was implemented this year.

Fifty-four of the district's employees opted into the new offer, which grants them $50,000 in monthly installments over the next five years.  The deal will save Fayetteville School District a projected $5.6 million dollars over the next eight years due to being able to bring in younger, less-experienced teachers that can work for a lower salary. 

In addition to the employees seeking early retirement, thirty-four teachers and administrators will be leaving their current position. The retirements and resignations will be effective as of June 30.
