The family of a former University of Arkansas student has filed a wrongful death civil lawsuit against the driver of the boat she was killed on, his parents and the family's company.

John Deselms was the driver of a boat that crashed into an unoccupied 96-foot fantasy houseboat docked on the Duck Creek arm of Grand Lake. Rachel Nicole Swetnam died in the crash, which also killed Trey Varner. The two were seated in the bow and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Excessive speed, alcohol and operator inattention were listed as contributing factors in the deadly crash. Deselms, his parents, and Seven Anchors LLC are listed as defendants.
