FAYETTEVILLE, AR--A Northwest Arkansas man, received the most coveted military decoration in the world.
James Van Patten of Fayetteville fought in World War II and Friday, he received the Purple Heart award.

"It means a great deal to have the support of all the folks here today and our young people in this area of the country," said Van Patten.

He fought with the 99th Infantry division in the Battle of the Bulge and now, for his service, he's receiving the oldest miliary decoration in the world.

"It's in memory of all those that we lost you know in that war," said Van Patten. "Almost every week goes by I still have flashbacks of seeing what happened during the battle I was in."

He tells us it's not all about him. He's thankful for the honor, but wants people to remember about future soldiers.

"It brings tears to my eyes that they remember some of things that happend. That's part of our history. And also to all the young men and women who are fighting in various wars now I think it's important that we support and honor them. They're our future."
