Fayetteville Students Tracking Trash Data

FAYETTEVILLE, AR-- Fayetteville High School seniors audited their lunchtime waste.

It's the final project for an environmental class. Students sat behind recycle bins on Thursday collecting "trash data" from their peers.

They were surveying how many disposable trays and utensils are being dumped. Thursday's results showed a single day's worth of cafeteria waste can fill an entire dump truck.

Environmental science student, Naseer Naseem said, "As environmental students we are concerned about how much waste we produce as students and so as a community we want to reduce the amount of trash we produce."

Students will present "sustainability ideas" to the school in hopes of creating a new recycle plan.
