Grammy Contest Winner Returns to NWA

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS -- A Fayetteville High School teacher may have just had the best week ever. After winning the Grammy Gig of a Lifetime contest, Barrett Baber headed to Los Angeles, performed at a pre-Grammy concert and then attended the awards show Sunday. Now, he's back home and hasn't stopped singing. After teaching class Tuesday, Baber kicked off the Razorback basketball game at Bud Walton Arena, singing the National Anthem. Later, he and his band performed at George's Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville. Baber says it's great to be back, and his time in Hollywood is something he will never forget.

"The one word I've been using over and over again is humbling and it's what I'll continue to use, because it was such a great experience, a humbling experience to go out and work with the top professionals in TV, and then get to rub shoulders with people in the music industry at the Grammys," he said Tuesday.
Baber won the trip thanks to online votes from fans. He has a message for the folks in Arkansas who helped make his dream come true.

"Thank you so much to everybody out there, all the fans. Wow, no one really understands the gift they gave us by voting for us and sending us to California last week, but they sure did and we really appreciate it."

In February, we're bringing you a special look at local artists like Baber, working to break into the music industry. Plus, we'll talk with the people working behind the scenes, to develop talent here in Northwest Arkansas. Keep an eye out for that special report.
