Hundreds of Cats Discovered in Fort Smith Home

FORT SMITH - Fort Smith animal control officers and Sebastian County Humane Society workers were in the process of removing around 200 cats from a Fort Smith home Friday.

Humane Society Executive Director JoAnn Barton says one cat was already dead, several kittens were near death and about 90% of the animals are sick. According to Barton, many of the cats will likely have to be euthanized.

The cats will be brought to the Sebastian County Humane Society, where veterinarians will evaluate their conditions.

Barton says the woman who lives in the home has been taking in cats for years, even from local veterinarians.
