Idol Edge: American Idol Gets It's Own Golden Ticket

America's most watched series went down in broadcast history in Las Vegas.  The National Association of Broadcasters inducting the show into its Hall of Fame after 12 successful seasons on the air.

"When we first came over here we only packed for three weeks," says excecutive producer Nigel Lythgoe.  "We thought we'd be off the air by then. So to be here 12 years later, it's fantastic."

"Idol" is recognized not only for its contributions to television, but for boosting the recording industry as well.

"I mean it's changed the face of music and how artists are broken and discovered," says judge Randy Jackson.  "it's really completely changed the face of music."

The show has created 370 number one hits on the Billboard charts and is responsible for millions of i-tunes downloads.  Not to mention launching the careers of signers who are now superstars.
